Greek center Ian Vougioukas has switched to UNICS Kazan from Panathinaikos on a two-year deal, the Russians said on their website Tuesday.

The 27 year old had spent the last five years playing in his native country, where he won the championship and Euroleague title last year.

UNICS won the 2010-11 Eurocup and this past season made its debut in Euroleague.

The team reached the quarterfinals only to be crushed 3-0 by Barcelona in a best-of-five series.

UNICS enter next season's Euroleague as a wild card entrant after failing to secure an automatic slot with a fifth-placed finish in the Russian league. League.

Vougioukas's national team failed to qualify for the London Olympics team, suffering a shock defeat to Nigeria in the quarterfinal of the qualification tournament in Venezuela.

Last month, UNICS re-signed former Serbian coach Aco Petrovic on a one-year deal.

Petrovic coached UNICS from 2007 to 2009, finishing third in the Russia championship in 2008 and winning the national cup in 2009.
