Russian Formula One driver Vitaly Petrov has vowed to return to racing among the leaders and to "kick everyone's asses," he said Saturday.

Petrov became known for a comparatively aggressive overtaking instinct and during his first two years in the sport with Renault before dropping to the back of grid with Caterham for 2012.

"There's a certain stimulus to come back and then kick everyone's asses," he said.

Moving to Caterham had been difficult at first but he has adapted, Petrov suggested.

"I survived it and I've already realized fully where I am, that I'm working in a different group of ten [cars]."

He then joked he may install guns on his car to boost his chances on the track.

Petrov got his best result of the season with 13th in last month's European Grand Prix, but was running as high as 10th with a chance of taking Caterham's first points before an accident derailed his chances.

Asked about taking points this season, Petrov was non-committal, saying that "anything can happen."

Petrov became the first Russian in F1 in 2010 and took the only podium of his career with third place at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix last year.
