England’s preparations for Euro 2012 have suffered another blow after a broken jaw forced Chelsea defender Gary Cahill to withdraw from the squad, the FA confirmed Sunday.

Cahill suffered a double fracture after being shoved into goalkeeper Joe Hart by Dries Mertens during England’s 1-0 friendly win over Belgium on Saturday.

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly, who won his first cap for England as an 87th minute substitute for Phil Jones against Norway last month, will replace Cahill in the England squad.

"Gary Cahill has been withdrawn from England's Euro 2012 squad following the injury he suffered in the match against Belgium," the FA said on its website.

His Chelsea teammate John Terry’s place in the squad is not threatened by a minor hamstring injury he picked up against Belgium, the FA said.

"John Terry has been scanned this morning and given the all-clear. He will be re-assessed on Tuesday when the team regroup."

Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard were ruled out through injury earlier this week, with Everton’s Phil Jagielka and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson called up in their place.

England will also be without striker Wayne Rooney for the first two games of Euro 2012 after he was sent off in a qualifying game against Montenegro.

England start their campaign against France on June 10 before taking on co-hosts Ukraine and ending the group stage against Sweden.

Cahill has scored twice for England and picked up nine caps since making his debut against Bulgaria in a 2010 friendly.
