WBA interim world cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev will fight Frenchman Jean-Marc Mormeck in Paris on July 21, Lebedev’s promoter Vlad Hrunov has told RIA Novosti.

The fight, earlier trailed for the first week of June, will be Lebedev’s first since a second-round stoppage of Shawn Cox in Moscow in April.

“The Lebedev-Mormeck fight is now planned for July 21 in Paris. The arrangements are in place and I think that nothing can stop this bout taking place,” Hrunov said.

Mormeck is stepping down from the heavyweight division after his fourth-round loss to Wladimir Klitschko in March.

He has to win another fight before his bout with Lebedev in order to return to the WBA rankings so that the WBA sanctions the title fight, Hrunov said.

“The federation can’s sanction a title fight with a boxer taking part who isn’t in its rankings and who lost by knockout in his last bout,” he said.

“I hope that Mormeck successfully competes in his next fight at a weekend soon and wins. I don’t doubt that he’ll return to the WBA rankings and the fight with Lebedev will be sanctioned.”

Lebedev has 24 professional wins, 18 of them by knockout, and suffered his only defeat in a controversial split decision in a WBO title bout with Marco Huck in December 2010.

Mormeck has a 36-5 record, with 22 wins by knockout, and the fight against Lebedev will be his first at cruiserweight since losing to David Haye in a fight for the WBC belt in November 2007.
