The government is taking measures to maximize the Russian audience of the London Paralympics, acting Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said Monday.

"We are working to increase the amount of broadcasting the London Paralympics by the Russian channels," Kozak said. "Also we plan to make the time of the highlights programs more convenient to attract a bigger audience."

The government will promote the Paralympics by holding various cultural and exhibition events, as well as sending Russian students to London, Kozak added.

The Games take place from August 29 to September 9, and will involve competitions in 20 disciplines.

At the previous Paralympics in Beijing in 2008, Russia finished eighth in the overall medal rankings with 18 gold, 23 silver and 22 bronze medals, with 26 of those medals won by the swimmers.
