Roman Yeryomenko's 25-yard rocket won the Russian Cup for Rubin Kazan against Dynamo Moscow in Wednesday's final.

The 25-year-old midfielder's swerving drive beat Anton Shunin just 12 minutes from time to seal a deserved win for Kurban Berdyev's team and a place in next season's Europa League.

Dynamo were at full strength, with attacking midfielders Igor Semshov and Andriy Voronin recalled to the starting lineup after reported feuds with coach Sergei Silkin.

But they were dysfunctional in attack and sat back in defense, inviting the kind of long shots that were eventually their undoing.

Bibras Natkho had already rattled the crossbar from 35 yards, and Yeryomenko himself had tested Shunin, with neither under huge pressure from Dynamo defenders.

As it is, Dynamo have a place in the Europa League guaranteed, unless they defeat FC Kuban on Sunday and results elsewhere conspire to lift them to second and snatch CSKA Moscow's Champions League spot.

It marks Rubin's first Russian Cup win after they were runners-up to CSKA Moscow in 2009, losing 1-0 to a Evgeny Aldonin strike in injury time.

Dynamo won the 1995 final against Rotor Volgograd 8-7 on penalties after extra time, a victory they never looked like repeating.

Dynamo's Zvjezdan Misimovic hit the first chance of the game straight at Sergei Ryzhikov from the edge of the area.

Yeryomenko hit the post for Rubin moments later with the goal gaping after Anton Shunin had tipped away a glancing header by Nelson Valdes.

Shunin punched away a swerving free kick from Rubin's Turkish winger Gokdeniz Karadeniz on 20 minutes.

A pinpoint ball over the top from Vladimir Granat found Kevin Kuranyi at the back post soon after, but the German, at full stretch, could only hit straight at Ryzhikov.

At the other end, Alexander Ryazantsev sent a long-ranger over the bar.

Hungarian winger Balasz Dszudszak skipped past two defender down the left and hit an apologetic shot that trickled through to Ryzhikov.

Ryzhikov watched a Vladimir Rykov header sail over moments later.

Rubin had the better of it after the break as Yeryomenko hit fierce low drive that Shunin caught at full stretch, before Israeli midfielder Natkho sent a curler just wide.

Valdes then flicked an effort just over from the near post after a cutting run and cross from the left by Karadeniz.

Dynamo's Romanian defender Alexandru Epureanu had a free header that went wide on 71 minutes with Ryzhikov off his line.

Moments later, Rubin's Natkho hit a drive from all of 35 yards that cannoned off the underside of the crossbar and bounced to safety.

Vladimir Dyadyun then got too little on a header from a powerful Karadeniz cross.

After Yeryomenko's strike, Dynamo heaped the pressure on, even sending Shunin up for a late corner, but Rubin saw out the clock to celebrate their first Russian Cup.
