Russia is to enter all five Olympic badminton events for the first time at London 2012, the country's federation said Friday.

Russia is not a traditional badminton nation, with a top Olympic showing at the Atlanta Games of 1996, when men's pair Andrey Antropov and Nikolai Zuyev reached round two.

But the improved performances of Russian players this year in their individual events mean the country will be represented in all five competitions in London.

"We have noticeable progress," said Antropov, now chairman of the federation. "Now we have to concentrate on serious preparations for a decent performance at the Games themselves."

Vladimir Ivanov and Anastasia Prokopenko are to present Russian in men's and women's singles, with Ivanov teaming up with Ivan Sozonov in the men's doubles.

In the women's doubles, Nina Vislova and Valeria Sorokina will go for gold, with Sorokin pairing off with Alexander Nikolayenko in the mixed.

The Summer Games begin July 27. Russia will vie for medals in 25 of 39 Olympic disciplines.
