Double Gagarin Cup-winning goaltender Petri Vehanen has left KHL team Ak Bars Kazan to return to his native Finland with top-level team Rauman Lukko, the Finnish club said Monday.

Vehanen won the first two Gagarin Cups with Ak Bars, picking up the league’s top goaltender award in 2010, and won the world championship with Finland a year later.

“Vehanen is the sort of goaltender who it’s hard to find in Finland,” Rauman Lukko coach Risto Dufva said on the team’s website.

The goaltender will train with the team briefly before he joins up with the Finland squad to prepare for the world championships that start in Finland and Sweden on May 4, the club said.

Rauman Lukko also announced the signings of defenseman Tommi Kovanen and forwards Kimmo Koskenkorvan and Arttu Ilomaen, all of whom have played their entire careers in the Finnish league.

Vehanen played 153 KHL games in his time with Ak Bars, saving 93.1 percent of the shots he faced.
