The brother and agent of Brazilian football star Ronaldinho has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for money laundering, Brazilian media reported Wednesday.

A court in the southern coastal city of Porto Alegre found Roberto de Assis Moreira, 40, guilty of concealing a transfer of nearly $1 million from abroad in 2003, as well as failing to report about the existence of Swiss bank accounts, the Globo Esporte newspaper reported.

Assis was also fined about $95,000, the report said.

Apart from being Ronaldinho's agent and adviser, Assis owns the Porto Alegre football club, which he purchased in 2006.
