SKA St. Petersburg forward Tony Martensson will stay with the team until at least 2015 after signing a three-year contract extension, the club said Tuesday.

Martensson has been ever-present for SKA since joining two seasons ago, playing in every regular season game in that time.

“The SKA hockey club has extended the contract with Swedish forward Tony Martensson by three years,” the club said in a statement on its website.

Martensson told RIA Novosti earlier this month that he was keen to stay a SKA player.

“I really, absolutely, want to stay in this team,” he said.

“I like everything here. I like the city and the fans.”

Martensson played briefly in the NHL for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, where he made six appearances in the 2003-04 season.

Since leaving Anaheim, Martensson has won the world championship with Sweden and the first-ever Gagarin Cup in 2009 with Ak Bars Kazan.

In the Swedish league, he was named regular season MVP, top points scorer and top goalscorer, all while playing for Linkopings HC in the 2007-08 season.

Since joining SKA in 2010, he has notched up 34 goals and 67 goals in 134 appearances.
