Serena Williams has taken the world number nine spot away from Russian number two Vera Zvonareva, who drops to tenth in Monday's new WTA rankings.

Thirteen-time Grand Slam winner Williams made the leap after winning the Family Circle Cup in Charleston on Sunday, where Zvonareva lost in the quarterfinals to eventual finalist Lucie Safarova.

Elsewhere, German player Angelique Kerber took fifteenth place from compatriot Julia Goerges, who drops to sixteenth, while the most prominent loser was former U.S. Open finalist Jelena Jankovic, down three places to twentieth.

Russians Maria Kirilenko and Anastasia Pavlyuchenko held on to twenty first and twenty second places respectively, while double Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova dropped two places to twenty seventh.

In the men’s ATP rankings, France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga took fifth spot from Spanish player David Ferrer, while U.S. player John Isner returns to the top ten, one spot behind fellow American Mardy Fish, after taking tenth place from Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro.

The top-ranked Russian male player remains Mikhail Youzhny, unchanged at thirty fifth, followed by Nikolay Davydenko three places behind and Alex Bogomolov Jr. at fortieth.
