The KHL has imposed fines on losing conference playoff semifinalist Atlant Moscow Region after supporters hurled missiles onto the ice and unfurled a banner deemed offensive during a game last week.

The KHL objected to fan behavior during two games in last week's Western Conference semifinal series against SKA St. Petersburg that the Muscovites lost 4-2.

"At both games spectators threw foreign objects onto the playing surface," the KHL said in a website statement.

"The club had previously been warned more than once for similar breaches of the rules and had also incurred disciplinary sanctions. In accordance with the KHL Disciplinary Regulations, the home team is held responsible for failing to control its supporters and to prevent missiles from being thrown, and therefore a fine is imposed on Atlant."

There was no word on the size of the fines.

During game six of the series in Moscow, Atlant fans displayed a banner suggesting SKA St. Petersburg coach Milos Riha, who left Atlant for the northern team last season, did so for the money alone.

"Atlant has also been previously warned on more than one occasion concerning similar incidents, and so ... the club is to be fined for failing to prevent obscene chants and the display of offensive banners," the statement said.

The KHL playoffs resume Wednesday with the start of the conference finals series.

SKA hosts Dynamo Moscow on Wednesday in the West, while Avangard Omsk travels to regular-season champion Tractor Chelyabinsk on Thursday in the East.
