CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia has said he is in talks about extending his contract at the Russian club.

Ivory Coast international Doumbia, 24, is the top scorer in the Russian Premier League this season with 24 goals in 30 games.

“Discussions are still going on,” said Doumbia, whose contract expires in 2015, in comments to his personal website.

The spotlight will be on the Ivorian on Tuesday night, when he takes to the field against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League, one of the biggest tests to date of his attacking prowess.

His importance to CSKA was boosted further last month with the club's sale of his strike partner Vagner Love to Brazilian side Flamengo.

Doumbia has been heavily linked with a move to the English Premier League in recent months, and has said partnering fellow countryman Didier Drogba at Chelsea is a big ambition.

CSKA chairman Evgeny Giner said in an interview with RIA Novosti earlier this month that he was expecting a raft of bids for the striker in the summer.

Doumbia said he couldn't wait to prove himself on one of the world's top stages.

“To know that we’re preparing for ‘that’ clash against Real Madrid is so motivating. We’ve got that hope to do something very special. I’m honestly over-motivated,” he said.

He was a third-choice striker at this year's African Cup of Nations, playing in only two group games in the Ivory Coast's run to the final, where they lost on penalties to Zambia.

“We should’ve won that competition. We focused on not conceding any goals, which we did well, but we didn’t score enough, at least in the final. And not conceding is obviously not a guarantee to win a competition such as the ACN.”

Doumbia joined CSKA in 2010 from Swiss top-flight side Young Boys Bern, and has scored 45 times in 59 appearances in all competitions.
