Russia’s WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin said Friday that he is relishing the thought of a clash with Wladimir Klitschko.

“I really want this fight and I’m sure it’s going to happen soon,” said Povetkin, who is gearing up for his first title defense on December 3 against American Cedric Boswell.

Klitschko is known to be in favor of the bout, saying last month he’d welcome “a duel of two Olympic champions.”

Povetkin took the Olympic crown in 2004 in Athens in the super-heavyweight category, while Klitschko was a gold medal winner in Atlanta in 1996.

Povetkin, who won his maiden title in August by defeating Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Chagaev by unanimous decision, is unbeaten in his six-year professional career, winning all 22 of his fights, 15 by knockout.

For the Klitschko fight to happen, Povetkin first has to overcome the 41-year-old Boswell in Helsinki next week.

Boswell (35-1-0) has put together 14 straight victories since a three-year break from the sport that he took after suffering his first career defeat against Jameel McCline in 2003.
