Kanaeva wins fifth gold medal at gymnastic world championships

Russia's Evgeniya Kanaeva won her fifth gold medal in the individual all-around event at the rhythmic gymnastic world championships in Japan on Friday.

MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Evgeniya Kanaeva won her fifth gold medal in the individual all-around event at the rhythmic gymnastic world championships in Japan on Friday.

Kanaeva received 113.850 points. Another Russian gymnast, Dariya Kondakova finished second with 113.250 points while Ukrainian gymnast Anna Bessonova took the bronze with 110.375 points.

The Russian team tops the medal table, having won six gold medals out of six. Kanaeva completed her sweep on Thursday, adding the ball and ribbon events to the hoop and rope gold medals she won on Tuesday.

The gymnasts will be bidding for more gold on Saturday and Sunday in the team events, including the all-around, the hoop, the ribbon and the rope events.
