MOSCOW, September 18 (R-Sport) - Russia's Igor Andreev, a former world No. 18, announced Wednesday that this season would be his last in professional tennis.
The 30-year-old Moscow-born tennis star has been dogged by knee and shoulder injuries in the last few years, leaving him unable to add to his three career ATP titles, all won in 2005 in the Russian capital, Valencia and Palermo.
"Time is passing, and my career is coming to an end," Andreev told Russian cable network NTV Plus. "After Wimbledon I took the decision to stop making professional appearances."
Andreev said "various factors and circumstances" were to blame for a lack of form that has left him 991st in the ATP world rankings.
"In recent years I've had lots of injuries, which played the decisive role," he said.
Andreev's best result at a Grand Slam is reaching the quarterfinals at the French Open in 2007, when he lost to Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Since turning pro in 2002, Andreev's career earnings stand at more than $4.5 million, according to the ATP website.
