MOSCOW, July 1 (R-Sport) - Alex Ferguson's former coaching assistant Rene Meulensteen has joined Guus Hiddink's staff at Anzhi Makhachkala, the Russian football side announced on Monday.

The Dutchman, 49, was the last of Ferguson's assistants to leave Manchester United after David Moyes took the main job from his fellow Scot at the end of last season.

"Former Manchester United employee Rene Meulensteen will help head coach Guus Hiddink," a statement on Anzhi's website said.

Meulensteen was next to Ferguson on the bench when United secured four Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League, among other silverware.

Anzhi announced other backroom staff acquisitions on Monday including masseur Danny Flitter from Arsenal and Everton physio Dominic Rogan.

"All these specialists have rich experience at leading European clubs," Anzhi said.

This summer Hiddink turned down numerous offers from abroad, and put off his retirement, to sign up with Anzhi for another season as the billionaire-back club looks to seal the Champions League qualification berth that eluded them this term.

Anzhi finished third behind champions CSKA Moscow and runners-up Zenit St. Petersburg, earning direct entry into the Europa League group stage.
