MOSCOW, October 24 (RIA Novosti) – A WWII era secret agent who posed as an undercover Gestapo officer has been identified as a bank clerk, according to files that were released on Friday, the BBC reported.

The genius spy Eric Roberts was better known by his alias Jack King was a father of two and lived the life of a quiet bank clerk. Yet during the middle of the previous century, Roberts was a master spy who revealed a group of Nazi sympathizers in Britain while working undercover, the Belfast Telegraph said.

Roberts specialized in spying on other clandestine traitors who secretly worked on the side of the Nazis. Roberts managed to effectively control and later reveal activities of several pro-German agents, according to the BBC.

Although Roberts barely spoke German, he was able to convince underground pro-Nazi sympathizers in Britain that he was a real Nazi spy, the BBC said.

Before he was called up to serve his country, Roberts was not known to possess any special qualifications which could have helped him to become an undercover Gestapo officer.

“What we would like to know here is what are the particular and especial qualifications of Mr. Roberts – which we have not been able to perceive – for some particular work of national military importance which would take him away from his normal military call-up in October?”, wrote RW Jones, a bank’s assistant controller, seeking an explanation after the British Security Service called up Roberts.

Despite his vivid dissimilarity with James Bond, Eric Roberts proved to be a very successful spy who proudly served his country.
