MOSCOW, October 24 (RIA Novosti) - Three of the Ebola patient Craig Spencer's contacts have been quarantined in New York.

"All three of these contacts are healthy and are being quarantined," The Washington Post quoted New York City's Health Commissioner Mary Travis Bassett as saying.

According to Bassett, one of the three people is in hospital, while the other two are staying home.

New York City's Health Department earlier stated that it was actively tracing Craig Spencer's contacts to impede any possible transmission of the Ebola virus.

Craig Spencer, a physician with Doctors Without Borders, returned from the Ebola-stricken Guinea 10 days ago and was rushed to hospital Thursday immediately after he showed Ebola-type symptoms.

The current Ebola epidemic, one of the current global security issues, started in southern Guinea at the end of 2013 and later spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal, with several Ebola cases also having been reported in the United States and Europe.

According to the most recent estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), 4,555 people have died from the disease, with 9,216 confirmed, probable and suspected Ebola cases.
