MOSCOW, October 23 (RIA Novosti) - Ice collected from Greenland will be displayed in clock formation in Copenhagen on October 26 to raise climate change awareness, the artist of the piece, Olafur Eliasson said Thursday.
"Sunday: Ice Watch! #climate2014," the artist said on his Twitter.
Sharing Copenhagen, an environmental workshop and display program launched by the city in 2014 also advertised the art event via Twitter promising to reveal details of the event on Friday.
The project, Ice Watch, involving Eliasson and the Geological Museum in Copenhagen's scientific leader, Minik T. Rosing, will place 12 massive blocks of ice from a fjord outside Nuuk, Greenland in Copenhagen's City Hall Square. The art is meant to act as a visual wake-up call and bring awareness to climate change and action.
The event precedes the Synthesis Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) to be released October 31, which compiles data on human-induced climate change for policymakers.
Copenhagen is expected to act as a green role model for the European Union (EU) after winning this year's European Green Capital Award. The award judged by the European Commission recognizes cities which have worked particularly hard to become more environmentally friendly and green.
Previous winners include Stockholm, Hamburg, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Nantes. Bristol is the European Green Capital 2015 and in June Ljubljana was awarded the prize as European Green Capital 2016.
