MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) - More than 300 people got infected with the Ebola virus within two days, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday.

According to the latest Ebola Response Roadmap update, based on the national reports, provided to the WHO earlier this week, Ebola death toll has climbed to 3,439 and the number of probable, confirmed and suspected cases has reached 7,492 as opposed to 3,338 deaths and 7,178 cases of infection registered by September 29.

The biggest number of confirmed cases, or 2,179, has been registered in Sierra Leone and Liberia leads in the total number of confirmed, probable and suspected cases of infection, currently standing at 3,834

The Ebola virus is transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of those infected. Though there is no officially approved medication for the disease, several countries, including Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan are working on developing Ebola vaccines.

The worst Ebola outbreak in history is currently taking place in West Africa. It started in southern Guinea in February and has since spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal.
