PARIS, September 17 (RIA Novosti) – Air France, whose pilots went on a week-long strike, plans to operate 42 percent of its flights on Thursday, company spokesperson Catherine Jude told journalists Wednesday.

According to the statement, the proportion of operating flights will remain constant.

The Air France strike began Monday as a protest against the company's plans to transfer jobs to its low-cost subsidiary Transavia, which according to the union, would negatively affect work and pay conditions, as new jobs will be seasonal. The protest is expected to last for a week.

Air France urges its clients to change flight dates or return the tickets. The company is providing hotel accommodation and meals for those who are stuck in airports.

According to the company estimates, the current strike may cost the airline between $12.9 million and $19.4 million a day, depending on how many pilots participate.
