Beijing's municipal government has tightened the requirements for foreign workers and has announced a new employment policy for foreigners acquiring jobs in Beijing, Xinhuanet reported Monday.

MOSCOW, September 15 (RIA Novosti) - Beijing's municipal government has tightened the requirements for foreign workers and has announced a new employment policy for foreigners acquiring jobs in Beijing, Xinhuanet reported Monday.

The new employment standards were announced Sunday by the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Foreign Affairs Office and the Municipal Education Commission. They require that non-Chinese employees meet certain requirements:

- Be between 18 and 60 years old

- Have no criminal record

- Possess at least bachelor's degree with not less than two years of relevant professional experience, and at least five years for teachers

- Have a contract with a specific employer

- Have valid international travel documents

- Have a valid work permit

Foreigners to be employed after October 3 to teach languages in kindergartens, schools and private education institutes should possess Chinese teacher certificates or International language teaching qualifications, such as Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).

About 37,000 foreign employees are currently working in Beijing and 95 percent of them hold at least bachelor's degree, Xinhuanet reported, citing Beijing municipal government statistics. They are employed mainly in information, science, technology and education.
