FERGUSON, MO, August 23 (RIA Novosti) – Online donation pages for Darren Wilson, the policeman who killed an unarmed African-American teenager, which sparked almost two weeks of race riots, have raised more than $250,000, according to data from the website GoFundMe.

“Funds collected will be going directly to Officer Darren Wilson,” said a page on the GoFundMe website. “We anticipate these funds will be used to cover potential legal fees, relocation and living expenses of both Officer Darren Wilson and his immediate family.”

Wilson, 28, shot and killed Mike Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old, on a residential street on the afternoon of August 9, sparking almost two weeks of often-violent protests in Ferguson, a predominantly African-American St. Louis suburb of some 21,000 residents.

While large crowds of protestors have demanded justice over Brown’s killing, smaller demonstrations in support of Wilson and the mostly-white local police force have also taken place and are set to continue this weekend.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon withdrew National Guard troops on Thursday as protests calmed in recent nights. Police have been criticized for using military tactics, toting assault rifles and using tear gas, rubber bullets and other heavy-handed measures.
