MEXICO, August 1 (RIA Novosti) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has suggested setting up orphanages in ALBA member countries for Palestinian children whose parents were killed during Israeli bombings and other military actions, Mexican news agency Notimex reported.
ALBA, or the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, was founded in 2005 and now comprises nine members – Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Ecuador, Saint Lucia and Dominica.
“We offer to create shelters named after Hugo Chavez in each ALBA country to accommodate the children of the war,” Notimex quoted Maduro as saying.
Maduro promised that Palestinian orphans will soon be brought to Venezuela, where they would be lavished with love and attention.
The president also said that protests against Israeli aggression on Palestinian people will take place in all Venezuelan cities on Saturday.
On July 8 Israel launched Operation Protective Edge to put an end to rocket fire from Gaza and undermine the Hamas movement, which dominates the Gaza Strip.
On July 17, the Israeli Army launched a ground assault, largely aimed at locating and destroying underground tunnels dug by militants to transport weapons and sneak into Israel.
According to Al Mezan, at least 1,194 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s Operation Protective Edge and ground invasion into the Gaza Strip, including 282 children and 147 women. Seventy-nine percent of the casualties were civilians. Additionally, at least 4,960 were injured during the same period.
