Miss China, a 23-year-old music student, won the Miss World-2012 title on Saturday, the pageant’s organizers said.
Wenxia Yu was followed by Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales and Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia, according to the event’s Web site.
Russia’s representative, Elizaveta Golovanova, a 19-year-old law student from Smolensk, did not make it into the finals.
The contest, which had 116 participants, took place in the city of Ordos in Yu’s native China.
Yu’s victory is the second for China after 2007, when Zhang Zilin won the world’s oldest beauty pageant, created in 1951. Russian contestants have won the event twice, the last time in 2008. Last year, the title went to Ivian Sarcos from Venezuela.
