Russian opposition party Yabloko will on Sunday hold a rally in Moscow to protest a controversial new draft law that could see fines for unsanctioned protests rise by two hundred times, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

The rally has been authorized, Yabloko said, and will take place in the center of the Russian capital at 2 p.m. Moscow Time (10 GMT).

The controversial bill was approved in the first reading by Russia’s lower house, the State Duma, on May 22, despite opposition objections and comes in the wake of unprecedented protests against President Vladimir Putin’s rule.

Six people, including Sergei Mitrokhin, leader of Yabloko, were detained at a protest in Moscow ahead of the hearing. Mitrokhin was later released.
