The wife of Russian opposition leader Sergei Udaltsov posted a video in an effort to show that the charges her husband beat a young woman are a fake.

Anna Pozdnyakova, a 20-year-old student, claimed she was hit by Udaltsov on Saturday during a protest against the establishment of a NATO transit base in the Volga city of Ulyanovsk.

Anastasia Udaltsova posted the slowed-down video of the “attack” that, according to her, was tampered with.

“It’s a police fabrication against a person they are afraid of and are trying to isolate from society under various pretexts,” she said.

Udaltsov dismissed the charges as provocation by the authorities who are jittery ahead of the upcoming opposition March of Millions prior to president-elect Vladimir Putin’s inauguration.

Russia's political opposition applied earlier on Monday morning to hold a May 6 March of Millions in Moscow to protest the results of parliamentary and presidential elections.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is scheduled to be inaugurated as president on May 7.
