MOSCOW, April 8 (RIA Novosti) – Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) is hoping to attract Russian professors to boost a new training program aimed at space engineering postgraduates, Sergio Viñals Padilla, the head of the IPN Aerospace Development Center, told RIA Novosti.

“We could invite professors from foreign universities after discussing and approving the subject matter of the training program, so that they could stay here for, let’s say, two years. And if we had such an opportunity with Russia, we would be able to go further and search for cooperation with France, Germany and possibly with the United States,” Padilla said.

He added that he is referring to six Russian professors at the moment and that talks over a possible agreement are currently underway at the ambassadorial level.

“This could be Moscow State University or the Moscow Aviation Institute, for instance, as they offer research in this area,” Padilla said.

IPN is also planning to foster cooperation in satellite development.

“We are still at the outset. The Mexican Space Agency was created back in 2010 but it has been operating for just about a year,” Padilla noted.

The IPN center was launched in 2012.

“We are working on a specific project right now. I can’t give you any concrete details, but it’s connected with small satellites. We would like to learn more about control criteria [regarding small satellites] applied here in Russia,” Padilla said.
