The Russian Progress M-15M space freighter will be undocked from the International Space Station on Tuesday morning and sent on a three-week flight to conduct a series of experiments, mission control said on Monday.

The experiments, as part of the Radar-Progress project, will include the study of engine impacts on the ionosphere.

“After the project is completed the space freighter will be deorbited and sunk in the Pacific,” mission control said.

The Progress M-15M resupply spacecraft successfully docked with the ISS on Sunday after a failure last Tuesday.

The failure triggered a passive abort - a standard procedure that took the Progress spacecraft to a safe distance of about 1.8 miles below the space station.
