Russian Pole Vaulter Isinbaeva Says Retiring as Athlete
MOSCOW (Sputnik) In July, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) banned almost all Russian athletes, including Isinbaeva, from taking part in international competitions including the Rio Olympics. On August 18, Isinbaeva, along with three other sportsmen, was elected by other athletes to the IOC Athletes’ Commission. The next day, the renowned athlete announced that she was ending her career as athlete.

"Of course I am staying in Russia. I have become a member of the IOC, as everyone knows, and it implies certain responsibilities. On the other side, I still do not know exactly and I have not come to a decision about the sphere I will be engaged. But definitely it will be connected with track and field," Isinbaeva told R-Sport.
