MOSCOW (Sputnik) — REMIX fuel is produced from a non-separated mix of recycled uranium and plutonium by reprocessing used fuel with added enriched uranium which reduces fuel consumption.
It is planned that the REMIX fuel will remain at the BNPP for at least three years. During this time, its condition will be monitored. After being discharged from the reactor, irradiated fuel assemblies will be delivered to a specialized organization to perform a post-irradiation examination.
The REMIX project has been made possible by more than a dozen Russian nuclear industry institutions, including the V. G. Khlopin Radium Institute, the Kurchatov Institute, the Rosenergoatom and TVEL, among others.
