Russia is ready to cooperate with the Ukrainian authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on humanitarian aid delivery to southeastern Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Friday.

UNITED NATIONS, October 24 (RIA Novosti) – Russia is ready to cooperate with the Ukrainian authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on humanitarian aid delivery to southeastern Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Friday.

Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting, Churkin underscored the "heavy plight of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions' population, to which we will continue to provide the urgently needed humanitarian aid."

"We are ready to cooperate in it with the Ukrainian authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross, but we will not let obstruction take place," he added.

Since August, Russia has sent three so-called "humanitarian convoys" of trucks, carrying food, water, power generators, medication and warm clothes to eastern Ukraine's Luhansk. Germany also sent 112 trucks with humanitarian aid to Ukraine in early October.

The Ukrainian government has demanded Moscow stop sending convoys to the embattled regions.

Armed confrontation between the Ukrainian authorities and forces of self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's republics killed over 3,700 since April, according to the latest UN estimates. In September, the sides reached a ceasefire agreement, brokered by Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe during the talks in Minsk.
