MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - French energy company Total confirmed Tuesday that its head Christophe de Margerie died in a plane crash at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport.

"Total group confirms... that its president Christophe de Margerie died... in a plane crash at the Vnukovo airport in Moscow," Total told Agence France-Presse Tuesday.

Earlier, a representative of the Vnukovo airport also confirmed his death.

The airport’s press service told RIA Novosti that a Falcon 50 jet crashed Tuesday night in the Vnukovo-3 airport. The cause of the crash was the jet’s collision with a snow-clearing machine on the runway.

The aircraft was performing a flight from Moscow to Paris with Christophe de Margerie on board. Vnukovo press service expressed condolences to the families of those people killed in the plane crash.
