Moscow considers the Moldovan Constitutional Court's decision on the unconstitutionality of all political forces that are against European integration to be "scandalous," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

MOSCOW, October 20 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow considers the Moldovan Constitutional Court's decision on the unconstitutionality of all political forces that are against European integration to be "scandalous," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

"The Chisinau authorities at this level are clearly attempting to move in a nondemocratic direction. This is shown in the recent decision by the Constitutional Court that any party whose goal is against integrating with the European Union is anti-constitutional. I was taken aback when I read this news," Lavrov said.

"This is a scandalous decision," the minister added.

On October 9, Moldova’s Constitutional Court confirmed that the country’s Association Agreement with the European Union, signed and ratified in summer, was constitutional. In a press release, the court stressed that any political orientation opposing the process of Moldova's European integration is "unconstitutional a priori." The statement triggered fears that the authorities could ban political forces protesting the country's orientation toward the West.
