MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has made certain progress, though still insignificant, on the Global AgeWatch Index, ranking 65th, a new report by rights-based international NGO HelpAge International has revealed.

The index measures the social and economic wellbeing of people over 60 in various countries across the world taking into account four indicators – income security, health, personal capability and whether the person lives in an "enabling environment."

The report points to Russia’s good performance on the capability domain (26), a decrease from 2013 due to an employment rate that is below the index average of 46.8 percent. In 2013, Russia was placed 78th.

Russia’s income security placing rose to 37th, outperforming its 2013 ranking due to the revision of relative welfare indicator. The country ranks low in the enabling environment domain (82nd), though higher than its 2013 rankings due to a rise in civic freedom (55 percent) and revision of public transport data (57 percent).

It ranks lowest in the health domain (86th) with below-average rankings on all health indicators for its region.

The up-to-date Global AgeWatch Index launched on October 1, 2014, marking the UN International Day of Older Persons.
