MOSCOW, October 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russian classified information is secure from potential cyber attacks, Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov said Wednesday.

"We see no threats as far as systems processing classified or confidential data are concerned," Nikiforov said.

"Classified information is being processed strictly in protected information systems. Russia has vast experience in cryptographic protection of information and has its own school of cryptography," he told reporters.

Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said about 90 million cyber attacks were detected and repelled since 2010, nearly two thirds of them – or 57 million – were committed this year. The 2014 attacks peaked during the Sochi Winter Olympics, Crimea's reunification with Russia and the civil conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Earlier on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia needs additional cyber security measures, as the country is recording "a steady growth in cyber attacks on Russian information resources." The Russian leader added that the intensity of such attacks is directly linked to the current international situation. Despite the surge of cyber attacks, Russia has no plans to limit internet or put it under total control.
