MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - Specialists from Rospotrebnadzor, Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being, are continuing their work in Guinea fighting the lethal Ebola disease, the watchdog reported on its website Friday.

"The SPEB [Specialized Anti-Epidemic Brigade] of Rospotrebnadzor is functioning as usual in the Guinean capital Conakry, SPEB members are in good health. The team of specialists continues to work on diagnostic aid and participation in anti-epidemic measures in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene of the Republic of Guinea," the statement says.

Earlier, local authorities reported the killing of eight people involved in Ebola prevention in a remote area in southeast Guinea. Members of that group informed local residents about the dangers of Ebola.

The Ebola virus is currently spreading across West Africa with cases registered in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The virus is transmitted through direct contact with the blood, body fluids or tissue of infected animals or people. There is no officially approved medication for the disease, and experts claim prevention is the only cure. Several countries, including Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan are currently working on vaccines.
