MOSCOW, September 4 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s Cabinet of Ministers has distributed almost 100 million rubles [$2.7 million] among the country’s regions to provide targeted support for refugees from Ukraine who are hosted by Russian families, according to a statement published on the government’s website.

"Approve the enclosed distribution of other intergovernmental grants provided in 2014 from the federal budget to the subjects of the Russian Federation to provide targeted financial assistance to Ukrainian citizens, who have a refugee status or temporary shelter in the territory of the Russian Federation and live in residential areas of Russian citizens," the statement said.

The majority of the sum, more than $270,000, will be sent to the capital budget and roughly the same amount will be sent to the Kaluga region. About $190,000 will be allocated for each the Moscow Region and the Rostov Region. A total of $2.7 million will be allocated to regional budgets for targeted support.

The influx of Ukrainian refugees to Russia has increased dramatically since June due to the armed conflict between the Donbas independence supporters and Ukrainian forces. According to the Russian Federal Migration Service, about 820,000 Ukrainian citizens have entered and remained in Russia since April 1, 2014.
