MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) – US President Barack Obama’s attempts to accuse Moscow of invading Ukraine clearly contradict the stance of the US Department of State, which stated there was no proof of it, the Russian president’s spokesman said Wednesday.

Obama told reporters in the Estonian capital Tallinn Wednesday that he had no doubts about Russian military involvement in the eastern Ukrainian conflict.

“We have repeatedly said there are no Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine. While Obama says there can be no doubts about that, US Department of State officials say simultaneously with their president that the United States has no proof of Russian military presence in Ukraine. This situation underscores their reluctance to use facts,” Dmitry Peskov told the Russkaya Sluzhba Novostei radio station.

“It’s an obsession with attributing a negative role in the development of the Ukrainian crisis to Russia, and we strongly object to this,” Kremlin’s spokesman added.

Earlier in the day, US President Barack Obama, speaking on a visit to Tallinn, said he has no doubt that Russian servicemen are involved in the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the United States Department of State has no independent evidence that the Russian troops crossed the border of Ukraine, spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Tuesday.

Since the beginning of the military conflict, Kiev and the West have been accusing Russia of sending troops and weapons to independence supporters in Ukraine’s southeastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. No evidence of the Russian military being present in Ukraine has ever been presented.

Russia has repeatedly denied any involvement in the Ukrainian crisis, urging Kiev to stop the bloodshed and establish a direct dialogue with representatives of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
