MOSCOW, August 29 (RIA Novosti) – About 100 inspections are currently underway at McDonald’s fast-food restaurants in various Russian regions, the company said Friday.

“Currently, more than 100 inspections are under way in McDonald’s restaurants,” the company said in a statement.

Last week, Russia’s consumer watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, launched sanitation checks on the fast-food chain in 18 regions throughout central Russia. As of today, 12 restaurants have been temporary closed due to sanitary violations.

In total, McDonald’s has more than 430 restaurants in 75 Russian regions.

The McDonald’s corporation, founded in 1940, is the world’s largest hamburger fast-food chain. International health and consumer groups have criticized the company for its menu and business practices.

According to a poll conducted by SuperJob’s Research Center, 62 percent of Russian respondents would support the closure of all McDonald’s restaurants in Russia.
