Russia’s Prosecutor General to Discuss Transnational Crime Fight With Foreign Colleagues

Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika is to discuss with his foreign colleagues the issues related to the fight against transnational crime during an international conference in the Russian city of Irkutsk, the press service of the Russian agency reported Tuesday.

IRKUTSK, August 26 (RIA Novosti) – Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika is to discuss with his foreign colleagues the issues related to the fight against transnational crime during an international conference in the Russian city of Irkutsk, the press service of the Russian agency reported Tuesday.

“During the conference [the participants] are expected to discuss the efforts by the prosecutor’s offices aimed at fighting transnational crime, including the functions and authorities of prosecutors in fight against human trafficking and illegal migration, as well as steps to improve the prosecutor’s work in counteracting illegal trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, the role of prosecutors in combating money laundering,” representatives of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office told RIA Novosti.

Earlier in the month, Chaika stated that interaction of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office with its foreign partners was not affected by sanctions imposed against Russia.

On August 26-27, Irkutsk is to host a Eurasian conference focused on the role of prosecutor’s offices in combating transnational crimes. According to the Russian agency, a series of bilateral meetings between Chaika and his foreign colleagues and the signing of cooperation agreements is expected during the conference. As of now, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office is cooperating with agencies from more than 80 countries.
