MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - The International Red Cross hopes for a positive solution on the situation of Russian photographer Andrei Stenin who disappeared in eastern Ukraine on August 5, Head of the International Red Cross in Europe and Central Asia Laurent Corbaz said Thursday.

“We know about this tragic outcome. We are in contact with his family and, according to our procedures, we are currently examining this case without any particular confidentiality and we hope to hear positive news about him as soon as possible,” Corbaz said.

Earlier on Thursday, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said that the Ukrainian authorities should clarify the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Stenin, as to this day his fate remains unknown.

The support for the Russian missing photographer has already been expressed by other international bodies. The OSCE, Reporters Without Borders, the Committee to Protect Journalists, the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots in Argentina, the Mexican Press Club are among organizations that condemned the abduction of Stenin and demanded his immediate release.

Stenin’s colleagues have been unable to reach him beginning August 5. Previously he had been working in the troubled southeastern regions of Ukraine. Reports suggest that the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) in the Zaporizhia Region in southern Ukraine had detained the photographer, but Kiev denied such information.
