MOSCOW, August 6 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Helicopters holding company has manufactured 24 percent of the global fleet of military helicopters, the company told journalists Wednesday.

“As of 2014, the Russian Helicopters plants have manufactured 24 percent of the global fleet of helicopters aimed for military purposes,” the spokesman quoted Sergei Chemezov, the head of Russia’s Rostec Corporation, a high-tech industrial producer and exporter.

Russian Helicopters, which is part of the Rostec Corporation, plans to have 20 percent of the global helicopter market by 2020. This goal could be achieved by expanding the share on traditional markets and capturing new markets.

“We are sure that our achievements will make a significant contribution to sustain Russia’s image as one of a few states that have been successfully developing high-tech helicopter production,” Chemezov was quoted as saying.

According to the holding, this year around 9,000 Russian-made helicopters are operated in more than 100 countries around the world. The Russian Helicopters holding company accounts for 85 percent of the Russian helicopter fleet. The company’s share in global helicopter sales is 14 percent.

The company’s products account for 35 percent of the world combat helicopters and 50 percent of medium-lift helicopters.

In the global fleet of civil helicopters, the Russian Helicopters company accounts for the record 71 percent among heavy lift helicopters (with the maximum takeoff weight of over 20 tons) and 69 percent of medium-class helicopters (with the takeoff weight of between 7 and 20 tons).

Russian Helicopters, Moscow-based holding that says on its website that it is the "sole Russian rotorcraft designer," has been showing an increase in its main financial indicators. As of December 2013, its portfolio reached 808 helicopters.
