US authorities still deny Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko access to medical treatment, he now can hardly eat, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Special Representative for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law Konstantin Dolgov said.

MOSCOW, August 1 (RIA Novosti) – US authorities still deny Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko access to medical treatment, he now can hardly eat, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Special Representative for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law Konstantin Dolgov said.

“The United States crudely violates international norms, ignoring legitimate rights and interest of a Russian citizen in American prison. The prison authorities still deny dental care to Konstantin Yaroshenko. He can hardly eat. They refuse to let him be examined in a hospital,” Dolgov wrote on Twitter.

The diplomat underlined that Moscow will continue “to insist on putting an end to this lawlessness, we press for Yaroshenko being examined by Russian doctors.”

Yaroshenko was detained in Liberia by US secret services in 2010 and accused of conspiring with drug smugglers. The Russian pilot denied the charges, but was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in jail in April 2011 for colluding to smuggle cocaine into the United States.

In February 2014, Yaroshenko began to complain of severe heart pain, dizziness and nausea, fearing they were symptoms of an impending heart attack. Russia’s efforts to ensure due medical assistance to its citizen in a New Jersey jail were made “de-facto impossible” by requirements set by US officials.
