Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to attend the 69th UN General Assembly to be held in New York this September, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Wednesday.

MOSCOW, July 9 (RIA Novosti) – Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to attend the 69th UN General Assembly to be held in New York this September, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Wednesday.

“No, [Putin] will not attend,” Ushakov told journalists.

The Russian leader spoke at General Assembly sessions back in 2003 and 2005. In 2009, Dmitry Medvedev attended the forum.

The UN General Assembly was founded in 1945, and is the main consultative and representational body of the United Nations. The assembly gathers annually from September to December.

The 69th General Assembly is to be chaired by Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa, who replaced John Ash from Antigua and Barbuda in June. The upcoming UN General Assembly is to focus on the development and realization of its agenda after 2015.
