There is no place for politicking in relations between Russia and China, which are looking to the future, Sergei Ivanov, Kremlin Chief of Staff said Wednesday.

BEIJING, July 9 (RIA Novosti) – There is no place for politicking in relations between Russia and China, which are looking to the future, Sergei Ivanov, Kremlin Chief of Staff said Wednesday.

“[Politicking] is an opportunistic approach in politics, when one wants to receive a short-term profit, not thinking about the future. … In relations between Russia and China such behavior is impossible. Nobody is politicking here,” Ivanov said, when asked to explain to Russian language students from Beijing University of Foreign Languages the meaning of the word politicking.

Ivanov underlined that the two countries are not only connected through their leaders but via numerous human ties.

“We have great contact on the highest level, in five days our leaders will meet again in Brazil at the BRICS summit, but this is just the top of the pyramid, and the pyramid is very stable when it has a secure foundation in human interaction,” Ivanov noted.

The Kremlin’s Chief of Staff started his three-day visit to China earlier Wednesday. During his trip, Ivanov is expected to meet with top Chinese officials to discuss bilateral ties.
