MOSCOW, June 4 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow hopes that Kiev would conduct an impartial investigation into cases of human rights violations in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Commissioner for Human Rights, Konstantin Dolgov, said Wednesday.
“An investigation has to be launched. We hope that judicial authorities, concerned Ukraine’s authorities would conduct a credible and impartial investigation. Let's not forget that Kiev is officially declaring its commitment to democratic standards. So, the judicial authority, the investigating agencies have to act accordingly," Dolgov said.
The situation has been opposite so far, he noted, adding that the whole international community has to participate in the investigation.
Earlier Dolgov said that Kiev's actions in eastern Ukraine beat all records of the past years with regard to human rights violations.
Starting from mid-April, Kiev authorities have been conducting a special military operation in the east of Ukraine to suppress the pro-independence movement. The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics proclaimed independence from Ukraine after May 11 referendums.
On Monday the Ukrainian Air Force carried out an airstrike on the administration building of Luhansk, claiming lives of at least eight people.
The same day Russia circulated a draft UN Security Council resolution urging to stop violence in the east of Ukraine and set up humanitarian corridors to allow the civilians to leave the territory of the military operation.
On Wednesday the Information Group on Crimes against the Person (IGCP) presented its new book titled Mass Human Rights Violations in the Course of Civil Resistance 22.02-22.05.2014 at Rossiya Segodnya International Multimedia Press Center in Moscow. The book is the first attempt to systematically address violations of human rights, civil rights and liberty committed by all sides during Ukraine’s civil conflict.
