MOSCOW, May 28 (RIA Novosti) – The outlook for Russian investment in Argentina’s energy sector was among the topics discussed at a Wednesday meeting of the Russian and Argentinian foreign ministers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
“We aren’t just interested in ways to diversify our trade relations but actually want to focus on investment. We would welcome Argentinian investments in the Russian economy,” Lavrov said after talks with his Argentinian counterpart, Hector Timerman.
Russia’s top foreign policy maker said Timerman confirmed Argentina’s interest in additional Russian funds. He said Russia was considering outlooks for a broader participation in its partner’s energy sector, including hydro and nuclear power plants.
“We hope that competitive advantage of our companies interested in accessing these particular sectors of economy will be appreciated by our Argentinian colleagues,” Lavrov added.
On Wednesday, Lavrov and Timerman met in Moscow to discuss a wide range of international issues, as well as Argentina's possible accession to the BRICS groups of countries and steps aimed at signing an accord on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
