Russian Troops Leave Temporary Bases Near Ukrainian Border – Defense Ministry

Russian military forces that took part in military drills in the Rostov, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions on the border with Ukraine are returning to their permanent bases, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

MOSCOW, May 21 (RIA Novosti) – Russian military forces that took part in military drills in the Rostov, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions on the border with Ukraine are returning to their permanent bases, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

“Within 24 hours the units removed their field camps and facilities, completed the loading of materials, prepared the warfare for the journey and are currently starting for railway stations and airfield,” a statement by the ministry says.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Monday the return of all troops involved in drills in the Rostov, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions on the border with Ukraine to their permanent bases and continue their military training. Later Russia’s deputy defense minister Anatoly Antonov confirmed that the withdrawal of troops from temporary bases near the Ukrainian border was already underway.

According to the Defense Ministry after returning to their permanent bases the troops start preparing for drills on other test grounds starting from June 1.
